If you’re looking for something fun AND quirky to do this month, the Goomeri Pumpkin Festival is just the ticket! And if you take part in the Great Australian Pumpkin Roll you could be crowned Lord of the Gourds!
Celebrating its 25th year, the Festival will welcome over 20,000 visitors from 27th – 30th May and there really is something for everyone with its canon firing, street parade, fireworks and whacky costumes.
A UNIQUE HISTORY
A small town in the Gympie region with just 650 residents, Goomeri has a colourful history with the early Dairy & Timber industries as well as being one of the first places to have a CinemaScope theatre. The festival offers visitors the perfect opportunity to explore some of the earliest histories of Queensland as well as enjoying gastronomic experiences second to none.
FOOD & DRINK
The festival programme offers wine tasting, food trucks as well as renowned chefs Jason Ford and Owen Stewart.
If you’re keen to try something even more Australian than the sausage sizzle, the Festival hosts Grazing in Goomeri – a bush dinner held at the Boonara Homestead. It promises gastronomic food experiences celebrating everything about living in the bush.

PUMPKIN OLYMPICS
Got a competitive streak? Then entering the re-branded Pumpkin Olympics is a MUST. Try the Dash 4 Cash race – entrants sprint to the top of Policeman’s Hill carrying a pumpkin of their choice. Or have a go at the Pumpkin Patch Snatch and try to snatch as many pumpkins as you can from the man-made patch in just one minute.
Of course, the créme de la créme of the Festival is The Great Australian Pumpkin Roll. Thousands of people will stand at the top of Policeman’s Hill and roll pumpkins down it, then across the road and up the gully on the other side. Try your hand and maybe YOU will be declared champion or even win the Lucky Spot!
