Stories worth the detour

We were just passing through. Stopping here was the right call

We were towing the caravan through Deepwater, NSW, and did what you often do in small country towns.

We pulled over. No big plan. Just a bakery stop.

We’re very glad we did.

Standing at the counter, we couldn’t decide between a pie or a sausage roll, so we ordered both. That decision paid off immediately. Honestly, they were some of the best pies and sausage rolls we’ve eaten in a long time. Proper country bakery stuff. Well made, generous, and exactly what you hope for when you stop somewhere like this.

Deepwater Bakery has that old-school country bakery feel. No fuss. No trying too hard. Just good food, done right.

The staff were incredibly friendly, the kind of welcome that makes you slow down instead of rush back to the car. Out the front, there was a small local produce pop-up selling fresh fruit and vegetables, which felt like a perfect extension of the place and the town.

And just when we thought we were done, we spotted the blueberry danish.

Still warm. Fresh out of the oven. We didn’t hesitate.

That alone would have been worth the stop.

This is the kind of bakery that reminds you why pulling over in country towns matters. Sometimes the best finds are the ones you don’t plan for.

Worth the detour: Yes.
