Stories worth the detour

We see a lot of pies. This one made us pause

When you spend time around butcher shops, you see a lot of pies.

Most are fine. Some are forgettable. A few make you slow down and actually take notice.

This curry beef pie came from Woorim Beach Family Meats on Bribie Island.

Katie sliced into it and straight away you could see it wasn’t mince trying to pass as something else. Proper chunks of beef. Slow-cooked, generous, sitting in a rich curry gravy that smelled like it had been made properly, not rushed or filled out.

It’s house-made in small batches and it shows. The pastry holds together, the filling stays where it should, and it eats like something that’s been thought about. No gimmicks. No shortcuts.

At $8 each, it’s the kind of pie that makes you rethink timing. Suddenly “I’ll grab something later” doesn’t make sense anymore.

We’re around food all the time. This one still stood out.

Worth the detour: Yes.
