History Comes Alive in Abbeystowe: A Journey Through Time

This September, history enthusiasts and curious minds alike will have the unique opportunity to step back in time and experience history like never before at the highly anticipated History Alive at Abbeystowe event in Caboolture. Hosted by the creators of the renowned Abbey Medieval Festival and supported by the Queensland Living History Federation (QLHF), this immersive event will take place on September 7th and 8th, offering a captivating journey from Ancient Rome to World War II.

After a five-year hiatus, History Alive returns with vigor, last seen at the Rocklea Showgrounds in 2019. Michael Elkins, President of QLHF, expressed his excitement: “We’re back! We are thrilled to announce the triumphant return of our beloved History Alive. It’s been a while, but we’re glad we can all gather to celebrate history, community, and reenacting with representatives from such a wide range of time periods.”

The event promises an array of activities and performances that will delight visitors of all ages. Attendees can look forward to the exhilarating spectacle of jousting, captivating combat displays, engaging archery sessions, and a chance to explore ancient machines up close. Workshops, demonstrations, and presentations will showcase the skills and craftsmanship of historical reenactors, while the dramatic main arena performances and cannon fire are sure to leave a lasting impression.

In addition to the rich tapestry of historical reenactments, the bustling Abbeystowe marketplace will transport visitors to a bygone era, filled with the sights, sounds, and smells of history. From the diverse culinary offerings that span various cultures to the talented musicians and street performers, History Alive is set to be a feast for the senses.

Martin Purslow, CEO of the Abbey Museum, emphasized the significance of the event: “The Abbey Museum hosts the largest Medieval Festival in Australia, which now sells out each year. In response to its success and the demand to see more of this sort of engaging activity, we are adding more to our calendar at Abbeystowe. In partnership with Queensland Living History Federation, we are delighted to provide a new home for the much-loved History Alive event.”

The Moreton Bay Joust Spectacular will be a highlight of the weekend, featuring professional jousters from across the region in a daily jousting feature.
