Stories worth the detour

A pie stop we were glad we made in Fernvale

Sometimes the best stops come from a simple recommendation.

A friend told us the Old Fernvale Bakery does great pies. That was enough. So while heading toward our next destination, we swung in to see what the fuss was about.

Straight away, it felt like the kind of place that’s been feeding locals for years. A big selection of pies lined up behind the counter, friendly staff, and that familiar bakery buzz that makes choosing harder than it should be.

We grabbed a couple and didn’t overthink it.

My pie was genuinely good. Proper filling, solid flavour, and exactly what you want from a country bakery stop. The kind of pie that makes you glad you pulled over instead of driving straight through town.

Since getting back, though, a few people have told us we should have also checked out the other bakery in Fernvale. Apparently, Fernvale Bakehouse and Patisserie is another local favourite, with some even saying their pies are the ones to beat.

Looks like we’ve got a reason to come back.

Because that’s how these towns work. You stop once, you enjoy it, and then you hear about the next place you “shouldn’t miss”, usually after you’ve already left.

We’ll be back. And next time, we’ll be checking out both.

Worth the detour? Yes, and possibly twice.
